Modern day Israel fought four battles for Gush Etzion : 1927, 1935, 1948, 1967.
In 1948, on the eve of Israel`s Independence, 240 Jewish soldiers fell in a bloody battle in Gush Etzion  and all of the survivors were taken into captivity.

In 1967, the sons of Gush Etzion returned home to rebuild the area. Today, there is a strengthened Gush Etzion, consisting of over 20 thriving communities.

The Gush Etzion Memorial Museum is dedicated to the fallen of the battle for Gush Etzion. The museum is located in Kibbutz Kfar Etzion.

The history of Gush Etzion symbolizes the history of the Jewish people and its yearning for Eretz Israel.
