We have received many interesting responses to our Lamed Hey newsletter. Our readers have asked for a list of names of the 35 heroic men who fell in the brutal and courageous battle on the way to help the besieged Gush Etzion during the war of Independence.

YU and the Lamed Hey

What is the connection between YU and the Lamed Hey?
For your information Moshe Avigdor Perlstein , 1925-1948, was from Jersey City, New Jersey. He studied at Yitzchak Elchanan
Seminary in NY, better known as Yeshiva University, and was a
leader in the "Hashomer Hadati", youth movement. In 1947 he made
aliya to kibbutz Ein Hanatziv and later moved to Jerusalem to study
agriculture and Jewish studies. When the war broke out he was honored to have the opportunity to volunteer in Jerusalem
defending the Jewish homeland. He fought in the Palmach
mountain brigade division, and than was chosen for the Lamed Hey.
On January 14, 1948 he fell in the heroic battle.

On January 8, 2007 150 YU and Stern students
visited Gush Etzion on their winter break.

Mandel 13, who was brutally murdered 5 years ago with his friend
