64 Years to the Lamed Hey


    Sixty four years ago on January 14, 1948 The Mountain Brigade of the Palmach makes its way to the besieged Gush Etzion. At the break of dawn 35 brave defenders are discovered and murdered brutally by Arabs. They never reach their destination.

    In their memory the Regional Council initiated "The March of the Lamed Hey", walking in their footsteps and along their path to rediscover the spirit of 1948 - heroism, friendship and dedication; a lesson for generations to come.

      Thursday, January 26, 2012, Shvat 3, beginning at midnight

      Meeting place - 12 midnight, at the entrance to Kibbutz Netiv Halamed Hey

      Length of March - 13 kilometers

      March begins via the kibbutz through the Eyla Valley, Etzion and Gdor River Beds until the battle hill.

      Singing around the campfire, ceremony at end of march.

      Bring 1.5 liters of drinking water, very warm clothes, good walking shoes, and food (warm drinks will be served along the way).

      Stay updated for weather reports and possible changes in the program. In case of rain the march will be postponed to the following Thursday.

      The program is coordinated and in conjunction with security forces.
