During the summer of 2005, we were fortunate to absorb 18 families from the US and Canada. Additional families also expressed interest in making Gush Etzion their home, and we hope that with the new building projects underway, future Olim will soon be able to join the rapidly growing Gush Etzion communities.
Summer camps were provided for the children to help prepare them for the school year, and 3 levels of year long ulpan classes are now full of adults, with an additional class for retirees. Two devoted girls from the Sherut Leumi, the national volunteer service program, work with the new olim during school hours, and high school ‘mentors’ are assigned to each individual student for afternoon visits at home. A support group has recently been created for the adult Olim, led by a psychologist who is an Oleh herself, therefore has a special understanding of the relevant issues.
