If you are planning on making Aliyah to Gush Etzion NOW is the time to do it.
The Ministry of Aliyah & Absorption (MOIA) has decided to include the communities of Gush Etzion in an innovative program called Aliya Kehillatit or Community Aliyah. This program offers a stimulus package to encourage Jews from certain parts of the world to make their homes in specific places in Israel.
The Community Aliyah Program has been running for five yearly cycles throughout Israel. Starting in 2004, the first round of Aliyah Kehillatit was offered to olim from France and the Former Soviet Union and included 300 families. The following year, the project reached 600 families of olim and was extended to include families from Latin America and North America.
From the summer of 2009, olim from North America that choose to make their homes in the communities of Gush Etzion will be given an attractive stimulus package in addition to the "absorption basket" given to every person that makes aliyah.
Who's Included? Families and singles between the ages of 25 – 55 making aliyah from North America to communities that are part of the Gush Etzion Regional Council (for example Alon Shevut, Tekoa, Elazar, Neve Daniel, Nokdim, etc.). Efrat is not included in this year's program.
What's in this Stimulus Package? Increased ulpan classes, rent subsidies, education enrichment programs, and cultural programs.
In addition MOIA appoints a project coordinator who serves as an on-the-spot contact person and trouble-shooter for Gush Etzion. The project coordinator will be in contact with olim prior to their aliyah and accompany them through the first stages of their arrival.
Benjie Aziz will serve as the project coordinator in Gush Etzion. Benjie made aliyah with his family from Queens, New York as a youngster in 1970.
He can be reached at the Regional Council of Gush Etzion at 972-2-9939916 or
972-50-401-2046.
